Man Dead, Teen Critical After M54 Collision

A tragic incident on the M54 has left one man dead and a teenager fighting for his life. Police were alerted after a teenager was rushed to hospital from an address in Smethwick in the early hours of Friday, May 15.

Discovery of the Vehicle

Officers from West Midlands Police contacted Staffordshire Police, who then searched the area. A black Vauxhall Astra was found in woodland near the eastbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 3. Inside, a man believed to be in his 20s was discovered at approximately 4:30am and pronounced dead shortly after.

Teenager's Condition

The teenager, in his late teens, sustained potentially life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized. He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham by ambulance from the Smethwick address.

Police Appeal

Staffordshire Police have appealed for information and dashcam footage. The motorway remains closed between junctions 2 and 3, and drivers are advised to seek alternative routes. A spokesperson said: "We are appealing for information after a man died and another man was seriously injured."

Ambulance Service Statement

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "On arrival there was one patient, a man. Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him. Earlier, we had been called to an address in Smethwick to treat a man for serious injuries. He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital."
