Man Seriously Injured in Birmingham Nightclub Stabbing, Police Seek Licence Review
Birmingham nightclub stabbing leads to licence review

A man has been left with serious injuries following a stabbing at a nightclub in Birmingham, prompting police to call for an urgent review of the venue's operating licence.

Emergency Response to Early Morning Attack

The violent incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 1. Emergency services were called to an address on Hampton Street in the Newtown area at approximately 5.30am.

West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched a significant response team, including an ambulance, a paramedic officer, and a trauma doctor supported by a critical care paramedic. Crews treated a man for serious injuries at the scene before rushing him to hospital under emergency conditions.

Police Investigation and Licensing Action

West Midlands Police confirmed the stabbing took place at the Melvic’s Lounge and Dinigs Kitchen premises, which operate from the same building. The force is investigating the case as a section 18 wounding offence.

In a significant development, police have referred both venues to Birmingham City Council’s licensing committee for an urgent review. Officers stated the premises have been "associated with serious crime and disorder".

The police application reveals that the incident happened in an upstairs room after trading had finished, with customers moving between the two licensed areas without leaving the building. Both venues share the same designated premises supervisor, Chinedu Collins Ogbike.

Police have requested that the premises licence be suspended and the DPS be removed. The council's licensing sub-committee is scheduled to hear the applications on Monday, December 8.

Venue's Response and Ongoing Enquiries

Following the attack, Melvic’s Lounge announced a temporary closure on its social media channels, citing a "temporary issue" and apologising for any inconvenience.

Police enquiries remain ongoing. A spokesperson urged anyone with information to contact them via 101, quoting log reference 450 of 1 December.
